Public Resolver Terms

Public Resolver Terms

Draft updated: August 30, 2026

Preparatory version: current operator details and deployed-service evidence remain to be completed. These terms do not certify regulatory compliance or replace mandatory user rights.

1. Service

le_dns provides a free public recursive DNS resolver on a best-effort basis:

DoH over HTTP/3 uses the same HTTPS URI when negotiated. There is no uptime, latency or fitness guarantee.

2. Acceptable use

You must not use the resolver to launch denial-of-service or amplification attacks, distribute malware, operate unlawful infrastructure, evade abuse controls, probe the service without authorization, or interfere with other users.

Resale of the public resolver is prohibited. Integration into a commercial service requires prior agreement.

le_dns may rate-limit or block traffic reasonably believed to threaten the service or others. Operational limits can change to address abuse; the service does not promise a fixed query allowance to automated high-volume users.

3. Resolver policy

le_dns does not apply voluntary advertising, family or commercial category blocklists and does not redirect DNS answers for monetization. It may respond to valid legal orders and may return errors for DNSSEC validation failures, malformed traffic, abuse controls or ordinary technical faults.

No statement on this page is a legal opinion about which French blocking obligations apply to a resolver operator.

4. Privacy

Resolver and operational data handling is described in the Privacy Policy. At the last verified production snapshot on 2026-08-29, the service still used the legacy stack. That dated evidence is not proof of current live state; reverify the deployed service before making a current claim. V2 aggregation guarantees do not apply until the cutover is completed and verified.

5. Availability and changes

The resolver is supplied “as is” and “as available.” Maintenance, attacks, network failures or legal requirements may interrupt it. Use multiple resolvers where continuity is important.

le_dns may change or discontinue the free resolver. Material changes to these terms will be published before taking effect where required by law.

6. Liability

To the extent permitted by mandatory law, le_dns is not liable for indirect loss arising from resolver delay, outage, incorrect third-party DNS data or a user’s configuration. Nothing in these terms excludes liability that cannot lawfully be excluded.

7. Governing law

French law is intended to govern these terms. Court competence remains subject to mandatory procedural and consumer-protection rules; no unreviewed exclusive-jurisdiction clause is imposed.
